This involves a number of changes: 1) Minor syntax changes to new recommended syntaxes and macros. Some of this is the result of running autoupdate, but I also eliminated some warning messages, eliminated deprecated uses of changequote, etc. (There is more that could be done here...several macros, e.g. OCTAVE_STRUCT_GR_PASSWD are superceded by new autoconf macros.) 2) Used autoheader templates to generate config.h.in; most of acconfig.h could therefore be deleted. 3) Largely replaced Octave's Fortran support macros with those in the new autoconf. (Several of these were originally derived from Octave.) In particular: * AC_PROG_F77: checks for many new Fortran compilers (also supercedes OCTAVE_PROG_G77 with its own check for g77). * AC_F77_LIBRARY_LDFLAGS: supercedes OCTAVE_FLIBS (actually derived from OCTAVE_FLIBS, but has since included many fixes/improvements). * AC_F77_DUMMY_MAIN: supercedes FORTRAN_MAIN_FLAG and MAIN__ functions in f2c-main.c. * AC_F77_WRAPPERS: defines F77_FUNC macro, superceding F77_FCN and OCTAVE_F77_UPPERCASE_NAMES/OCTAVE_F77_APPEND_UNDERSCORE. 4) Mostly eliminated use of internal (undocumented) autoconf cache variables. 5) Replace BLAS/LAPACK detection (originally written by me) with new macros ACX_BLAS/ACX_LAPACK from the autoconf macro repository (also written by me). I noticed that there was a hack, an inserted bogus FOOBAR symbol, to break Octave's tests and prevent Octave from using the fnmatch/glob functions in libc. Is there a reason for this? The libc functions work fine for me (Debian GNU/Linux).
